Installation Guide

Platform Support

macOS Installation

Step 1: Download

Download the BeatDiscovery V2 .pkg installer from your customer portal or purchase confirmation email.

Step 2: Run Installer

  • Double-click the .pkg file
  • Follow the installation prompts
  • Enter your password when requested (required for system-level installation)
  • Click "Install"
  • Step 3: Installation Locations

    The installer automatically installs to standard macOS plugin locations:

    Plugin Files

  • Audio Unit (AU) - `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/BeatDiscovery.component`
  • VST3 - `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/BeatDiscovery.vst3`
  • Sample Packs

  • Location - `~/Documents/BeatDiscovery/Packs/`
  • Important - All sample packs MUST exist in this location to work
  • Included packs are installed here automatically
  • Custom packs must also be placed here
  • Step 4: Open Your DAW

  • Launch your DAW (Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, etc.)
  • Rescan plugins if needed
  • Create a new instrument track
  • Load BeatDiscovery V2 (available as AU or VST3)
  • Step 5: Verify Installation

  • BeatDiscovery V2 should appear in your plugin list
  • Load the plugin
  • Default sample packs should be available in the Sounds dropdown
  • You're ready to create!

    Minimum Requirements

  • macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later
  • Intel Core i5 or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)
  • 4GB RAM minimum
  • 500MB free space (more for additional sample packs)
  • Built-in Core Audio support
  • Recommended Specifications

  • macOS 11.0 Big Sur or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel Core i7+
  • 8GB RAM or more
  • SSD with 2GB+ free space
  • Dedicated audio interface with low-latency drivers
  • Plugin Formats

    BeatDiscovery V2 is available in two formats on macOS:

    Audio Unit (AU)

  • Native macOS format
  • Best for Logic Pro, GarageBand, and other AU-compatible DAWs
  • Installed automatically
  • VST3

  • Cross-platform format
  • Best for Ableton Live, FL Studio, Reaper, and other VST3-compatible DAWs
  • Installed automatically
  • Sample Pack Location 📁

    Critical Information

    All sample packs MUST be located at: ~/Documents/BeatDiscovery/Packs/

  • Included packs are automatically installed here during installation
  • Custom packs must be placed here manually
  • Pack folders must end with .bdpack (e.g., `mydrums.bdpack`)
  • See the Custom Sample Packs section for detailed pack creation instructions.


    Troubleshooting Installation

    Plugin Not Appearing

  • Rescan plugins - Force your DAW to rescan for new plugins
  • Check installation - Verify files exist at `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/BeatDiscovery.component` and `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/BeatDiscovery.vst3`
  • Restart DAW - Close and reopen your DAW completely
  • Security settings - Check System Preferences > Security & Privacy (you may need to allow the plugin to run)
  • Permission Errors

  • Ensure you entered your password during installation
  • Try running the installer again
  • Check that you have admin privileges on your Mac
  • Sample Packs Not Loading

  • Verify location at `~/Documents/BeatDiscovery/Packs/`
  • Check folder names end with .bdpack
  • Restart DAW after adding new packs
  • Check folder structure - verify `samplesets/` and `patternsets/` exist inside .bdpack folders
  • macOS Security Warning

    If you see "BeatDiscovery cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer":

  • Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy
  • Click "Open Anyway" next to the BeatDiscovery message
  • Restart your DAW
  • Uninstallation

    To uninstall BeatDiscovery V2:

  • Delete plugin files - `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/BeatDiscovery.component` and `/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/BeatDiscovery.vst3`
  • Delete sample packs (optional) - `~/Documents/BeatDiscovery/`
  • Rescan plugins in your DAW
